The members of the musical ensemble of the 9:30 Sunday morning Mass at St. Peter Church strive to build up the Kingdom of God in St. Peter Church by providing for the musical needs of the parishioners within the Liturgy of the Mass through prayerful song of praise and solemnity, which enhances worship and encourages active participation of the community. In this ministry to the parishioners of St. Peter our mission is to serve God through music with a will to adhere to the teachings of the Church concerning music in the liturgy.
The musical ensemble of the 9:30 Sunday morning Mass arrives each week with eagerness to offer songs of praise, thanksgiving and meditation in traditional and contemporary styles. Musicians include traditional keyboard, acoustic guitars, electric bass, violin and flute, and vocalists who sing in two to four part harmonies. Members range in age from high school to adult, and offer varied musical talent.
The unique quality of this ensemble is its history of consistently and faithfully providing music on Sunday mornings at St. Peter Church since the mid-1970’s when the group began as a “guitar choir.” Because of this rich history there exists a strong sense of community within this group of committed members. Throughout the years as changes in membership and leadership have occurred, the gifts of renewal and recommitment have been realized. Currently the ensemble is directed by Anne Simpson.
When does the ensemble practice? Practice is at 7:00pm on Thursday nights, twice monthly, in the Church. These practices are necessary for good choral sound and coordination of instrumentation, and therefore a requirement for participation in the choir.
When does the ensemble sing for Mass? Every Sunday morning at the 9:30 Mass.
Who can join? Members of our parish community, high school age or older, with a gift for singing, the ability to hold a pitch, and a good sense of rhythm. Previous musical experience and a commitment to the ministry of the ensemble is a welcome addition to our choir membership.
